Her mother’s maiden name was Carroll. She gave her birth date as 1892 and 1895 at various times. She and her husband Art worked for and later owned a trucking company named McKesson & Robbins. She is listed as Mary G. (38, CA) in the 1930 census, first married at age 25. In 1938 she was listed as widowed at 4128 17th St in San Francisco. She inherited the business and wanted her adopted son Ken to take it over, but he didn’t.
In 1940, after the death of her husband, she is listed on 17th St as widowed (48, CA), working as a delivery clerk for a drug store, with son Kenneth (16, CA) and a lodger David Jenkins (78, CA).
She later married Leo Carton, who died before her, at which time she resumed the use of Samuels as her last name.

The 1900 census shows his birth in Jun 1888, while his WWI Draft registration says he was born 11 Jun 1889.
Listed with his parents on Clinton Park in 1907 and as mgr of a livery stable in 1910 census. Listed as a drayman (driver) with his wife Mary at 4128 17th St for his draft registration in 1917, 1920/1930 census, and thru 1936 in city directories. In 1930, he is shown as John A. (39, CA) first married at age 27, with his wife, Mary G. (38, CA) and "son" Ken (6 7/12, CA) - they are indexed as Samuck.
He is the uncle who raised Ken Samuels, and apparently had no children of his own. Family refers to him by the nickname of “Bob” or “Bub”. Had a trucking company named McKesson & Robbins according to Cathy and Tosca, which his wife ran after his death. He used the name Art, but was listed as Arthur in his father's obit (1934) and died when Ken was 15. He was medium height, stout build, blue eyes and light color hair.
He died of coronary sclerosis in Franklin Hospital and was buried with his parents in Cypress Lawn cemetery. The certifying physician was his brother-in-law David D. Drake.
